A new home. A new life. The umpteenth. “If I finally feel Serena? Surely now I’m happier”, says Serena Grandi with conviction. It may be because of the rediscovered faith, or perhaps only because “only those who have fallen many times then find the strength to get up”. The falls, the loves, the great joys and the great pains of life the actress has put in black and white in her book Serena at all costs. Letter of a life never sent, published by Giraldi publisher and in bookstores from tomorrow. It is not a real autobiography (“It’s still too early”, the actress smiles), but a sort of epistolary novel of her life, told through 25 letters that Grandi wrote during the first lockdown. A new home. A new life. The umpteenth. “If I finally feel Serena? Surely now I’m happier,” she says with conviction Serena Grandi. Letters addressed to parents, to their son Ercole, but also to directors, actors and actresses, and old loves. Letters addressed to those who are no longer there, such as her parents or ex-husband Beppe Ercole, and to those who are still there.

The letter that hurt you the most to write?

“The one to my mother Filomena, whom everyone called Mina. When I decided to come and live in Rimini and open a restaurant (La Locanda di Miranda, which later went bankrupt, with the actress convicted of bankruptcy) I did it mainly to stay closer to her. She left Bologna to come and see me, she went into the place all jeweled, she stopped to talk to the other customers. She was happy for me “.

In the book you also address Tinto Brass, Pupi Avati and Paolo Sorrentino, the directors who have marked the most important stages of your career.

“I wanted to deal with my life and with this profession.

Being an actress has given me a lot, but it has also taken a lot from me. There are also letters to Corinne Clery (who married Beppe Ercole, the ex-husband of Grandi, ed), to Fanny Ardant, to Pino Daniele, with whom I had a flirt. I also wrote to Beppe (Ercole, ed): I forgave him everything. This is a book full of pain, of melancholy, but also of irony and fun. That’s how I am. “

The volume also deals with breast cancer surgery. What relationship do you have with your body today?

“Complicated. But I have not lost the joy of living. On the contrary: the last tattoo I did reads just ‘joie de vivre’. Well, I feel more serene. Maybe the name my mother wanted for me is starting to have a sense. And faith is helping me a lot “.

Is it true that you are thinking of becoming a lay nun?

“Let’s say that a couple of months ago I started a journey at the church of the Word of Grace in Riccione, which could lead me to be a lay nun”.

Just like Claudia Koll.

“Yes, like Koll. Could it be Tinto Brass’s fault?” He laughs.

Was it your recent vicissitudes that prompted you to attend church?

“Which ones? The fact that my house was sold at auction? Or the stalking episodes of my last ex-boyfriend (who denounced, ed)? I’ve been through a lot. But today I’m a different woman, who still does the maths with the pain of my mother’s death and the removal of her breast due to the disease, but also more capable of recognizing friends and enemies. I have become a bit of a witch: I immediately realize who wants to cheat me “.

And what about the house? Will he leave Rimini after his apartment was sold at auction following the restaurant’s bankruptcy?

“An absurd story that … I would have to say, about who cheated me … Anyway, yes, I have already decided. Because they took away my house, but they don’t tear me down”.

Where will be the new, yet another, life of Serena Grandi?

“I will go to live in Milan, to be close to my son Edoardo who has lived and worked there for four years. I will take my dogs and my parrot with me, my other loves. I had come to Romagna for my mother, but she is not there. it is nothing that binds me to Rimini. It is a city where, after a certain hour, you are also afraid to take dogs to the park. Ten days ago a Filipino was killed at 7 pm, in front of the station, among the people. What world is this? “.
