(ANSA) – MILAN, 01 DEC – Renaissance masterpieces from Bergamo and Brescia, the two cities that will be capitals of culture in 2023 and which were among the most affected by the pandemic, are the protagonists of the traditional Christmas exhibition at the Palazzo Marino, seat of the Municipality of Milan.

The appointment with art, which will be held from 2 December to 16 January in the Alessi room with free admission, returns after last year’s stop due to Covid with the works of Lorenzo Lotto, Alessandro Bonvicino called il Moretto, Giovan Girolamo Savoldo and Giovan Battista Moroni. ‘The Renaissance of Bergamo and Brescia’ is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, promoted by the Municipality of Milan and Intesa Sanpaolo as an institutional partner, with the support of Rinascente. “It is very important that the communities of Milan, Bergamo and Brescia come together, it is a gift that these cities give us – commented the mayor, Giuseppe Sala – and we really appreciate it because they will also be capitals of culture in 2023. This exhibition falls just at the right moment for our territory which has suffered so much and will certainly start again with a notable cultural awakening “. There are four masterpieces on display: the ‘Mystical Wedding of Saint Catherine of Alexandria and Niccolò Bonghi’ from 1523 from the Carrara Academy of Bergamo, the ‘San Nicola di Bari presents the pupils of Galeazzo Rovellio to the Madonna Enthroned with Child’ painted by Alessandro Bonvicino known as Moretto in 1539. Also from the Tosio Martinengo Art Gallery comes’ The Adoration of the Shepherds’ by Giovan Girolamo Savoldo, made in 1540, while the ‘Madonna and Child with Saints Catherine of Alexandria, Francis and the offerer ‘of 1555 by Giovan Battista Moroni comes from the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan.
