Italy now fears a “yellow Christmas”. After Friuli, it is the turn of Alto Adige. Other regions in anxiety

Italy has been colored again since yesterday. Fault of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, which in recent days has exceeded all three parameters that mark the confinement between security and the first risk zone. But it could soon touch other regions, and that would become a problem in the month of Christmas shopping.

In Lombardy there is a certain agitation, given the rather pronounced increase in infections. According to our calculations, the situation is still quite certain, but it is feared that with the current progression of growth the most populous region of Italy may end up in yellow before Natala. The contagion index is far above the first warning level of 50 weekly cases per 100 thousand inhabitants (134) but this value is high throughout Italy and is no longer fundamental. What happens in hospitals counts more and here the margins are still substantial: yesterday Lombardy counted 817 admissions in non-critical areas (+28 compared to the previous day) with an occupancy percentage of the 6,608 available places of 12.36 percent, below the limit of 15 which ships in yellow. As for intensive care, 6.47 per cent are occupied (99 places out of the 1,530 available) when the first level of care is 10 per cent.

There are other areas most at risk at the moment. For the autonomous province of Bolzano, the yellow zone from next Monday seems obvious: the incidence of infections is skyrocketing (513 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, the highest in Italy) and also the occupation of places in non-critical areas it has been over the limit for days (yesterday 93 beds out of the 500 available, equal to 18.60 per cent), but now even intensive therapies exceed 10 per cent: yesterday 12 of the 100 available were employed. Problems also in Calabria (incidence 82, occupation of non-critical areas at 12.82 per cent, of intensive care at 9.20), in Lazio (incidence at 156, occupation of the non-critical area at 11.45 per cent, of intensive care at 10.29), in the Marche (incidence at 170, occupancy of the non-critical area at 8.59 per cent, of intensive care at 10.08) and in Valle d’Aosta, where the incidence soars to 281 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, the occupation of non-critical areas is 20.20 per cent and that of intensive care is so low (3.03) but considering the small numbers of the Alpine region it would exceed 10 per cent with only 3 more hospitalizations.

As said yesterday, Friuli anticipated the rest of Italy, not only because it was dyed yellow due to the exceeding of the limits (incidence of infections at 350 cases per week per 100 thousand inhabitants, intensive care units 15.43% employed, read in non-critical area occupied at 21.61 per cent) but also due to the decision of President Massimiliano Fedriga to introduce the reinforced Green pass one week earlier than the rest of Italy. Without the passepartout that is obtained only by having completed the vaccination course or having been cured of Covid for less than six months, one cannot sit at the table in bars, eat in restaurants, go to the cinema and theater, follow sporting events at the stadium, dance at the disco and participate in parties and ceremonies. Negative molecular or antigenic swabs will no longer take the place of vaccination. In Trieste yesterday in the center there was a great coming and going, but everyone was wearing a mask and in the bars almost no one broke the new rules. The controls of the Green Passes have been entrusted to the managers, but also the police have shown themselves around to dissuade any transgressors. However, the region has made it known that common sense and a certain tolerance will be used for the first few days. The prefects of the region were the first to convene the Security Committees to define action plans involving the local police. The penalties applied range from 400 to 1000 euros for both the operator and the customer and if the violation is repeated three times, on three different days, the premises are closed for 10 days. Until Sunday 5 December no changes on public transport: you can get on without showing the certificate of immunization, just wear a mask.
