(ANSA) – DUBAI, 29 NOV – In a year characterized by the numerous promotional activities on Italian food carried out at Expo 2020 Dubai, the VI Week of Italian Cuisine in the World in the United Arab Emirates was divided into numerous events for operators and large public, linked to this year’s theme “Tradition and perspectives of Italian cuisine: awareness and enhancement of food sustainability”.

Among these – reports a note from the Italian embassy in Abu Dhabi – the twelfth Italian Cuisine World Summit (6/11 November) with the participation of 11 starred chefs, the Specialty Food Festival (7/9 November) with 55 Italian agri-food companies and the Innovation talk “Sustainable and secure food for a sustainable life” (9 November) organized by the ICE in collaboration with the Embassy in the Emirates and the Consulate General in Dubai.

On this last occasion, the ambassador to the Emirates Nicola Lener underlined that “Italy enjoys a vast and heterogeneous food offer that exercises a strong attractive power on the general public. The activities continued with the promotion of the Italian food offer at the large local distribution chains (Lulu Supermarket, Al Maya Supermarket and Eataly), the organization of the “UNICO – Intenso Italian Dining Lab” and with the visit of the minister degli Esteri Luigi Di Maio at the M-Eating Italy space, set up by Fiere di Parma – Cibus in Expo 2020 on the occasion of the National Day of Italy at the universal exhibition.

In ideal connection with the Week of Italian Cuisine, there are also regional initiatives, including the seminar promoted by the Lazio Region “A Talk on Agrifood Tradition and Experimentation, Innovation and Sustainability” and the dinner “Under the stars of Lazio” curated by chef Antonello Colonna on November 25th. Finally, the convivial event “A cena con Dante” on November 28 was dedicated to medieval Italian cuisine and the osmosis between gastronomy and language and between Divine Comedy and the Arab world, promoted by the Italian Cultural Institute in Abu Dhabi also in connection with the 700 years since the death of the Supreme Poet. The dinner was introduced by Simone Pregnolato, Italianist at the Catholic University of Milan, with a speech on the references to eating habits contained in the Comedy and on the language of cookbooks at the time of Dante.
