A member of the Sicilian Alpine and Speleological Rescue (Sass) died last night during a rescue operation on Etna. Sass made it known that in a press release wrote: “Salvatore Laudani, friend, colleague, passed away”, adding that “all the Sicilian Alpine and Speleological Rescue joins the pain of the family”. The cause of death is not specified, even if it is related to an accident or illness. Dal Sass explain that “at the moment we cannot add anything else” and that “everything will be specified with a press release that will be issued in the next few hours”
The rescue operation was triggered yesterday for the recovery, carried out by Sass and the Alpine Rescue of the financial police (Sagf) of Nicolosi, on the southern side of Etna, at 2,246 meters above sea level, of a man who, despite the adequate equipment for the type of excursion, he had slipped into one of the gullies overlooking the Valle del Bove, causing the suspected fracture of a lower limb. The Sass and Sagf teams had reached the wounded man and brought him to safety. Rescue was hampered and made difficult due to the presence of snow, strong gusts of freezing wind, fog and sub-zero temperatures.
