The 2021 season of the Milan Academy of Ancient Music ends – in the beautiful Sala Barozzi of the Istituto dei Ciechi Thursday 2 December – with the London Ensemble “Florilegium” specialized since 1991 in the ancient repertoire and since 2008 ensemble associated with the Royal College of Music in London. For the evening entitled “The English Orpheus” Ashley Solomon (flutist, who was one of the founders of the group and is now its director), Bojan Čičić (violin), Reiko Ichise (viola di gamba), Jessica Cale ( soprano) and Julian Perkins (harpsichord). The evening’s program focuses on Purcell’s vocal pages (“Music for a while”, “Lord what is man”, “If music be the food of love”, “Sweeter than roses”, “An evening hymn”) combined with instrumentals by Weldon, Blow, Croft and Baltzar.
