The public art gallery between via Padova and viale Monza. The project in the Cariplo Foundation’s «Lacittàintorno» program

«Tunnel Boulevard» is a project that aims to enhance the entire route via Pontano (from via Padova to viale Monza), with the aim of increasing the livability and interconnection of the neighborhood’s open spaces, definitively transforming the railway overpass from a physical barrier and an abandoned space into a place of creativity urban and social meeting.

The project

The idea is to transform this part of the neighborhood with the project “Beyond the Tunnel – Via Padova Mondo” starting from the Cariplo Foundation’s Lacittàintorno program, developing a shared, inclusive, welcoming, free public space, where the idea of active citizenship combined with the beauty of common project actions can give meaning to these spaces. The cleaning, preparation and coloring of the walls of the tunnel in via Padova have just been completed.

The activities were made possible thanks to the collaboration of Mapei, Yume, Fineco Bank and Litoart under the direction of the Municipality of Milan, the Milanese Metro and A2A. The first public art gallery in a tunnel in Milan was thus created in the two railway underpasses, inaugurated with the work «Travel Diary» by Pablo Pinxit curated by Christian Gangitano. The promoters of the initiative are the T12-Lab Association (project leader), the Comin Social Cooperative, B-CAM Social Cooperative and ComunicareArte Atelier Spazio Xpò. Active citizens, associations, universities, schools and local realities participated in the implementation of the intervention.
