States General Engineers // Redo at the former Slaughterhouse. Revision: 15 thousand between residents and city users

Fifteen thousand people every day between residents and city users at the former slaughterhouse in Milan. This is the estimate advanced to the General Engineering States by Fabio Carlozzo, managing director of Redo, who was awarded the regeneration of the Viale Molise area as part of the ‘ReinventingCities’ tender.

The winning project, named “Aria”, is – Carlozzo recalled – “the most important social housing project in Europe, because we are talking about 60 thousand square meters of social housing, 1,200 new apartments, the vast majority rented for rent. agreement “. 3 thousand new inhabitants are expected in the area, where the new international campus of the IED will also be located, with 4,500 students and 200 professors and a university student residence with 600 seats. Pod, the new Science & Art district, will also be born in the former slaughterhouse, for which 300,000 visitors per year are expected. The project, for a total investment of over 500 million euros, is estimated to generate 30,000 direct or induced jobs and 1,500 job opportunities linked to the green economy.

The urban regeneration project in the Milanese port of Porta Romana will be completed in 2028. This was announced by Luca Mangia, of CoimaSgr, speaking on the first day of the 2021 edition of the General Engineering States in Milan. The area, however, will begin to be inhabited two years earlier, on the occasion of the 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, during which the airport will host 1,400 athletes in the Olympic Village, which from 2027 will become a student residence. “It is a project that is spread over a total area of just over 200 thousand square meters, with 164 thousand square meters of building rights. We have about 30 percent of building rights that will be used for social housing and 30 percent of non-residential functions. It will be a dynamic district ”, Mangia said, underlining the environmental, social and economic impact among the“ strategic lines of the masterplan; the creation of an interconnected and intergenerational neighborhood, active 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in a completely car free area “.
