Toprak Razgatlioglu is the 2021 WorldSBK World Champion. It was enough for the Turk to finish Race 1 in Mandalika in second place and he did: he couldn’t Jonathan Rea, winner of the heat, which thus sees his domination, which had continued for six consecutive seasons, interrupted.

A very tight race
Toprak could be satisfied, avoiding taking unnecessary risks on the most important Sunday of his life. But rowing in a boat is not part of the Turkish vocabulary, who ran the whole race with the tooth knife despite the rain before the start. The Yamaha rider did not spare himself, fighting openly with the Northern Irishman, until he made a mistake at 8 laps of the end that had relegated him to third place. Razga was able to recover, while Rea tried a useless escape for the championship purposes.
The Northern Irishman thus bows to the young rival, who becomes the third youngest driver ever to win the title of the production derivatives. For the Iwata company it is the second success after the one obtained with Ben Spies in 2009.
Locatelli and Bassani hold the tricolor flag high
The podium of the race was completed by Scott Redding, in the lead for some steps but forced to surrender to the two antagonists for the title. Behind the Ducatista he classified Andrea Locatelli, now a subscriber in fourth place, followed by the excellent Axel Bassani. The early stages of the race had exalted the Motocorsa Team rider, capable of attacking Rea and Razgatlioglu before retreating a few positions.
Michael van der Mark finished in sixth place ahead of Alvaro Bautista, Chaz Davies, Leandro Mercado and Tom Sykes. Michael Ruben Rinaldi is 12th.
Race 2, scheduled at 8 am Italian time, will give the last barrels of a spectacular season.
