Toprak Razgatliuoglu made it and graduated World Superbike Champion 2021 with a race in advance.
The pilot of the Yamaha he celebrated with a suit and a helmet all gold, what a touched Kenan Sofuoglu handed him at the end of the race, in a corner where a special changing room had been set up, after all the drivers had stopped around the young Turk to congratulate him, first of all Jonathan Rea, the great loser who, however, once again proved himself champion of sportsmanship.
The race did nothing but repeat the challenges we have seen throughout the season between the three Rs, and this time to complicate things even more rain, which fell before the start, but only in some sectors of the track.
Nonetheless, after two reconnaissance laps who reduced the total laps of the race to 20 (from 21 that should have been) all opted for tires slick.
And it was the right choice, because the rain saw fit not to return and not to ruin a very high-tension race, especially for the two protagonists of the season Razgatlioglu and Rea, who battled as usual with no holds barred, with the insertion before the surprising ‘rookie’ Axel Bassani and then with the third force of this SBK 2021: Scott Redding.
A really difficult race, where it would have been easy to make a small mistake or a crash, which would have put an entire championship into play. And the mistake was made by the Turk with nine laps to go, with a long and a hike off the track which then forced him to a comeback that allowed him to overtake Redding and get behind Rea, when, however, there were only a few laps to go to the checkered flag.
As always Toprak tried to the end, so much so that he set the fastest lap of the race on the penultimate lap, and got a second place which means World Champion.
Rea did what he had to do, he didn’t do anything wrong by going to win the race after fighting like a lion, but i 30 points of disadvantage accumulated in previous rounds were too many to hope to reconfirm champion.
Race alternates that of Redding who climbed on the third step of the podium, proving to be more and more competitive with the V4, but also making a few mistakes too many. English also has conducted a few laps in the lead, but in the end, third place seems to us the right result for the blond Ducati rider.
“Little ant” Andrea Locatelli he conquers an excellent fourth place in the final laps, mocking a great Bassani, who until the track was partly wet showed his great driving sensitivity. Same goes for Michael Van der Mark who, as he demonstrated with the victory in Portimao, is particularly at ease in wet track conditions and who today finished in sixth place, ahead of Alvaro Bautista it’s at Chaz Davies. In his penultimate SBK race, the Welshman got off to a good start from 11th place, only to finish with an honest eighth place.
Bravo Leandro Mercado to get the ninth position, ahead of Tom Sykes. The BMW Englishman did the shrimp race as in his early years with the Kawasaki. Fourth at the end of the first lap, Tom then dropped visibly, finishing tenth in front of the two disappointments of this race: Garrett Gerloff e Michael Ruben Rinaldi. After a disastrous start from fourth on the grid, the American only took care to maintain the position, while the Ducati Italian made a mistake in the first laps, which relegated him to the bottom of the standings.
Isaac Vinales, Samuel Cavalieri e About Nozane they finished in the last three positions, from thirteenth to fifteenth, while they did not see the checkered flag Tito Rabat, for a gearbox problem, while the rookie Oliver Konig e Christophe Ponsson they were victims of harmless falls.
They have not started Leon Haslam ed Alex Lowes, stopped by physical problems.
