The team from Oristano has won the basketball tournament for the ten athletes with heartbreaking final down syndrome

ORISTANO. New success for Atletico Aipd Oristano: last Sunday the boys of coach Mauro Dessì in fact graduated for the second time Italian Champions of basketball for athletes with down syndrome, after the first success arrived in 2019. “We got the the maximum we could achieve – comments coach Dessì – after a year and a half of forced stop for Covid it was all very nice. We weren’t expecting a first national event so soon, and when they proposed it to us we immediately jumped at it, because it gave us the opportunity to breathe a restart ». The experience was a succession of emotions. «The first feeling I want to share was the beauty of taking the plane back together with our 10 boys – reveals Dessì – I underline all 10 because after all this time there was the fear of losing someone on the way. Instead, everyone showed a great desire to leave and when we announced the event to them they were enthusiastic and eager to face the journey ». On the sporting level, then, the results have rewarded the athletes from Oristano. «I do not hide – admits the coach – that everything went beyond the forecasts. We had only been training for a month and a half and we did not know what to expect from the comparison with other very competitive realities. We said to ourselves: “Let’s go and see how it goes”. But for us the victory was already leaving and taking the plane ». The field, however, said that the people of Oristano could play it on a par with the other teams. «It went well, on Saturday we played the two qualifying matches and reached the final. The match on Sunday, then, against the Anthropos of Civitanova Marche, was very tight. We played it point by point. We could also lose it, because until the third quarter we were tied. They won the first quarter, we won the second, it was a real head to head. In the last quarter we proved to be more of a team, and with a bit of luck we finished 29-23 against a very strong opponent who fielded 3 Nationals. I have chosen to rotate everyone, according to their possibilities, and whoever played, regardless of the minutes, gave their all. I can say that this was the best victory ». The AIPD Oristano lined up Antonello Spiga, 45 from Oristano, Alessio Melis, 20 from Terralba, Cristiano Merella, 36 from San Gavino Monreale, Davide Paulis, 25 from Quartu Sant’Elena, Enrico Manunta, 45 from San Gavino Monreale, Fulvio Silesu, 46 years of Marrubiu, Gabriel Lotta, 22 years of Bonarcado, Gabriele Sella, 19 years of Mamoiada, Gioele Accalai, 17 years of Usellus, and Lorenzo Puliga, 23 years of San Vero Milis, who also arrived the social compliments of Dinamo. Coach Dessì was joined by his deputy, Alessandro Pilloni, while the team’s president was also the president Francesco Redaelli.
