There is great anticipation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the soccer world championship that will take place in Qatar. The final phase of the 22nd edition of the sports competition will be held extraordinarily from November 22 to December 18 next year and not in the summer due to the prohibitive temperatures in the country during the hot months.
It will also be the last time they will participate in the World Cup 32 national. In fact, from 2026, 48 teams representing as many states will take the field.
The eyes of fans from all over the world are turned toItaly, which hosted the 1934 edition, the second in the history of football and which saw the Azzurri winners, and that of 1990, which became famous for West Germany’s 4-0 win against Argentina. Our national team has won, in addition to the first in our country, three other editions of the World Cup, in 1938, 1982 and 2006.
Football, because Italy is in the spotlight for qualifying for the World Cup
Twice Italy did not qualify at the World Cup, in 1958 and 2018, while at the first World Cup in 1930 our players did not go to Uruguay for political reasons.
The failure to participate three years ago in the tournament that was held in still burns Russia in 2018, after the November 2017 debacle in the match against Sweden, with strong controversy against the then coach Gian Piero Ventura, relieved from office two days after elimination.
Italy, this time, must qualify for the World Cup. And not just for reasons of fans. Another wrong shot may in fact not be forgiven by him sponsor, who continued to invest in the European Champions despite the absence of the Azzurri in Russia.
Football, how much money does the national team earn thanks to sponsors and contracts
In the four-year period between 2015 and 2018, our national team was worth 79 million euros a year, of which 35 million thanks to contracts with television broadcasters and 22 million thanks to the partnership with Puma.
Also thanks to the victory at the 2020 European Championships, played a year late due to the health emergency, Italy has become a team for almost 90 million euros per year between 2019 and 2022, and has also driven the growth of GDP and made the fortune of the giants of the web, as we have explained to you here.
The next contracts will cover the period between 2023 and 2026, and a qualification for the World Cup, regardless of the results obtained in the competition, could skyrocket the team’s value. over 100 million euros thanks to the renewal of contracts and the entry of new companies into the sponsors’ game.
Regardless of how the qualifications go, for now it is safe to pass the baton from Puma to Adidas, which will sign a contract between 30 and 35 million euros with the Azzurri on 1 January 2023.
Football, how much do the teams that qualify for the World Cup earn
The compensation is not yet available for the teams that will participate in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. In the last edition each national team earned different figures based on positioning and match results.
- 2 million dollars for the 32 national teams that reached the final stage of the tournament.
- 10 million dollars for teams eliminated in the groups.
- 20 million dollars for teams eliminated in the round of 16.
- 25 million dollars for the teams participating in the quarterfinals.
- 40 million dollars to the losing finalist team.
- 50 million dollars to the winning team.
The one in Russia in 2018 has been the World Cup so far most expensive in the history of football, and it is possible to think that Qatar wants to raise the bar, also to increase its prestige in the eyes of fans of the green field from all over the world.
If the Azzurri were to qualify, as already mentioned, the FIGC would earn huge income thanks to the rights to broadcast the matches (here the record figures) and to contracts with sponsors. An exclusion would weigh heavily on the Azzurri’s coffers, as anticipated here.
