The psychotherapist was sentenced by the court of Reggio Emilia in the shortened rite for the alleged illicit custody of Bibbiano and Val d’Enza. The prosecutor had asked for six years for the charges of abuse of office, very serious injuries and procedural fraud (charge from which he was acquitted). Social worker Beatrice Benati acquitted. The mayor of Bibbiano on trial for abuse of office, but acquitted of forgery charges

Claudio Foti, the psychotherapist owner of the well-known Turin treatment studio “Hansel & Gretel”, was sentenced to four years in the shortened rite for the alleged illicit custody of Bibbiano and Val d’Enza. The social worker Beatrice Benati, the only other accused to have chosen the shortened procedure, was acquitted, because the fact does not exist. The Gup of Reggio Emilia then indicted the mayor Pd of Bibbiano Andrea Carletti for abuse of office, but acquitted him of the false accusations.

Foti sentenced to 4 years, Benati acquitted

The “Angels and Demons” trial was born after the investigation into the alleged system of illicit custody of minors in the Val d’Enza Reggio area. For Foti, the Prosecutor had asked for a six-year sentence for the accusations of abuse of office, procedural fraud and very serious injuries (hypothesis of crime formulated for the alleged psychic alteration of a patient). Now the judge has decided to sentence him to 4 years and acquitted him with the formula “because the fact does not constitute a crime” from the hypothesis of procedural fraud. The GUP also sentenced the psychotherapist to pay damages to the civil parties, including Unione Val d’Enza, Ausl di Reggio Emilia, the Emilia-Romagna Region, the Ministry of Justice and the Gens Nova association, as well as the parents of four minors.
Acquitted, as mentioned, Beatrice Benati, social worker of the Val d’Enza Union: for her the prosecutor had asked for a year and six months of sentence on charges of private violence and attempted private violence. On this matter, in February 2020 Cinzia Magnarelli, social worker of the Val d’Enza Union, a confessed criminal and accused of false ideology and procedural fraud, negotiated a year and eight months (suspended sentence).

Mayor Andrea Carletti indicted

The judge today also decides whether or not to accept the requests for indictment for the other suspects, including the former head of social services Federica Anghinolfi, considered the key defendant. For now he has indicted the mayor of Bibbiano Andrea Carletti for abuse of office. “His position – commented the lawyer Giovanni Tarquini – has been further lightened. We remain firmly convinced that Mayor Carletti has always acted in total good faith, as we hope to demonstrate in court. The trial, as far as he is concerned, will have to verify not only whether any administrative illegitimacy has been committed in the award of the contract concerning the therapeutic service for the care of minors by the Union of Municipalities, but, above all, to whom the possible illegitimacy is attributable, that is who had concrete awareness of any irregularities and whoever acted in good faith “.
