The weekly incidence per 100 thousand inhabitants also rises to 232.1, a record value. Hospitals begin to suffer. The virologist: “Emergency situation”

The alarm is raised in Germany for cases of coronavirus. In the last 24 hours 39,676 people tested positive, a week ago it was 20,676, e 236 died for a grand total of 96,963, according to data released today by the Robert Koch Institut. The weekly incidence per 100,000 inhabitants is also worrying, which rose to 232.1, the third consecutive record value in three days (a week ago it was 146.6).

Hospitals are beginning to suffer and some have been forced to transfer patients to hospitals in other regions. The virologist of the Charité of Berlin Christian Drosten, speaks of “A real emergency situation” and he is convinced that it will be necessary to “reduce contacts again”. Drosten fears that if action is not taken, there will be another 100,000 dead. But the three parties committed to forming the traffic light coalition (SPD, green and liberal) have already made it known that they will not extend the state of emergency nationwide, expiring at the end of November. On the other hand, the extension until March of other measures such as the obligation to wear a mask and social distancing in public spaces is being studied. These measures are expected to be presented in the Bundestag tomorrow and voted on next week.

Angela Merkel’s spokesperson, Steffen Seibert, invites us to follow the example of Italy, Portugal and Spain: “The share of vaccinated people in Germany is not sufficient to counter the impetus of the Covid infection. If we had 10-15% more vaccinated people we would have a lower incidence of the virus ». To date, only 67% of the population has been immunized but, according to an Infratest-Map survey, today 57% of Germans, for the first time, are in favor of introducing compulsory vaccination.

“The Chancellor is of the opinion that it is necessary as soon as possible a meeting between the State and the Regions to coordinate anti Covid policies», Seibert added, explaining that Merkel is in contact with all the participants to get to« an appointment quickly ».

Meanwhile the Stiko Standing Committee on Vaccinations has recommended that people aged 30 or younger are vaccinated against Covid only using Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine. This is because, according to the analysis of the German advisory body, the product in question showed a lower incidence of heart inflammation in this age group compared to the other mRna vaccine, that of Moderna.
