The Itis Mattei of Urbino returns to where it has been missing for over 20 years: the student Luca Mannocchi, who graduated this summer with 100 and honors, won second place at the “Chemistry Games”, a national level competition organized by the Italian Chemical Society. . Despite the excellent results in the various competitions in which it regularly participates, for a long time the Urbino institute had not achieved such a prestigious goal in this specific area. Suffice it to say that the last of his students able to conquer the podium at the Chemistry Games before Mannocchi, Giovanni Piersanti and Luca Giorgi, are now professors of the Carlo Bo University, so it was like breaking a taboo.

For the Itis manager, Sergio Brandi, “Luca’s individual placement stems not only from his skills, but also from an excellent work carried out by the Chemistry department, as emerges from competitions and academic results”. In the joy of this result, the only regret for Mannocchi will be the not being able to participate in the Olympics that should have taken place in Osaka, Japan: the second place obtained last October 16 would have allowed him to be part of the Italian national team, but the competition was canceled due to the pandemic. However, the positive year for Itis Mattei had begun in May, with another team affirmation in the regional phase: in category A (reserved for the two-year period of all study areas) the Matteo students had obtained first and second place. Arcangeli and Alessio Tornati, who were also called up for the national rounds and reached 10th and 13th place overall, and ITIS overall had occupied eight of the top 10 positions; in category C (three years of technical institutes with a specialization in Chemistry), Lorenzo Bresciani, one year younger, was second behind Manocchi. Here too, the institute had conquered seven of the top 10 positions.

“These results represent further proof of the excellent preparation that the students of our school show they possess – comments Professor Paolo Rossolini, coordinator of the Mattei Chemistry Department -. Results that are not ends in themselves, but are then confirmed. even at the university level in accessing and attending various courses of study. For us teachers, this is a source of great satisfaction, because every year we set ourselves the challenge of stimulating and making the most of young people “.
