The squad of the Under 21 team: new Quagliata and Scalvini
Who is Lorenzo Lucca, jewel of Pisa and Under 21
Nicolato has chosen 25 players to continue the path towards the 2023 European Championship. The two novelties are the defenders Giacomo Quagliata (class 2001 of the Heracles Almelo) and Giorgio Scalvini (2003 who made three Serie A appearances with Atalanta). There is no Sandro Tonali, who instead had been called up for the October races even though Mancini had already set his sights on him. Below is the list of all the players called up:
- Goalkeepers: Marco Carnesecchi (Cremonese), Alessandro Russo (Alessandria), Stefano Turati (Reggina);
- Defenders: Raoul Bellanova (Cagliari), Riccardo Calafiori (Rome), Andrea Cambiaso (Genoa), Andrea Carboni (Cagliari), Gabriele Ferrarini (Perugia), Matteo Lovato (Atalanta), Kaleb Okoli (Cremonese), Lorenzo Pirola (Monza), Giacomo Quagliata (Heracles Almelo), Giorgio Scalvini (Atalanta);
- Midfielders: Salvatore Esposito (Spal), Nicolò Fagioli (Cremonese), Filippo Ranocchia (Vicenza), Samuele Ricci (Empoli), Nicolò Rovella (Genoa), Iyenoma Destiny Udogie (Udinese);
- Forwards: Matteo Cancellieri (Hellas Verona), Lorenzo Colombo (Spal), Lorenzo Lucca (Pisa), Samuele Mulattieri (Crotone), Roberto Piccoli (Atalanta), Emanuel Vignato (Bologna).
The situation in the group
The Under 21 team, as mentioned, is in the group F for the qualification for Euro 2023. Thanks to three wins and a draw, the Azzurrini are currently second in the standings to 10 points. One unit away is the leaders Sweden, who, however, played one more game. They have three points less than Italy, Montenegro and Ireland, while Bosnia and Luxembourg are last and penultimate with, respectively, five and one point.
