It was the first and largest drive-in vaccination hub in Lazio against Covid 19 and has administered over 215,000 vaccines with peaks exceeding 4,000 doses per day.
The first vaccinated in that hub, and the first in Lazio to receive a dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccine, was a 67-year-old retiree from Latina, Pietro Bongo, former commander of the Sermoneta local police.
Six months after its opening, today 27 October with a concert dedicated to health workers from the Italian Army Transport and Materials Band, the Valmontone Drive-In is about to close, which will officially take place on 30 October.
Born from the collaboration between the Lazio Region Health Department, ASL Roma 5 and Valmontone Outlet, inaugurated on April 13, 2021, the structure became operational on April 24.
The designers, inspired by the model of Denver, Colorado (a Drive-in able, in fact, to vaccinate thousands of people a day) had thought of a structure capable of delivering “at least 2,000 vaccines a day”. Today we know that it has gone far beyond the forecasts.
The structure, in which the Management of the Rome 5 ASL and the Lazio Region have believed since the beginning of the design, represented, with over 215 thousand administrations, one of the main points of reference for users not only of the Rome 5 ASL, but of the whole Region, with particular regard, in addition to the population of Roma Capitale, to the areas of the province of Frosinone and Latina (over 215 thousand vaccines performed, almost 132 thousand vaccination cycles completed and over 200 third doses). Record numbers for the maxi-vaccination center: over 65 professionals employed including 19 doctors, 30 nurses and 16 health workers, eight operational islands, each with four stations, for a flow of 30 cars at the same time, reaching over 250 administrations per hour.
The creation of the Drive-In Vaccinale was also made possible thanks to the contribution of Valmontone Outlet and specifically by the Group owner of the DWS Group structure and by the company that manages the center, Promos, who made available, free of charge, a large parking area of 20,000 square meters annexed to the Outlet and contributed to some expenses related to the fittings.
The company MagicLand SpA of Valmontone, owner of the Amusement Park of the same name, has then made available, free of charge, a large parking area to allow people to wait for their turn in the shelter.
“During the day, at night, in the heat, in the cold, always with a smile on his face despite the tiredness and only for the good of all of us: these have been our operators during all these months in which the Drive-In has been open . And today, a few days after its closure, we are all here to thank them first of all – comments the General Director of ASL Roma 5, Giorgio Giulio Santonocito – This huge machine worked and worked well thanks to the work of everyone: administrative, health, technical offices, security services, cleaning services. And it is to all of them that our “thank you” goes. We cannot fail to thank the Lazio Region, for the constant support, the municipal administration, the Valmontone Outlet, without which it would not have been possible to create this vaccination facility and MagicLand and thanks to all the people who have chosen to get vaccinated here. This phase is ending. This is an important signal which indicates that, thanks to vaccines, to people’s responsibility, we are moving away from the emergency ”.
“The excellent results achieved in terms of vaccination coverage – comments Giuseppe Colombo, Head of Real Estate Italy DWS – demonstrate the goodness of the choice to make our spaces available to the campaign, confirming how the collaboration between public and private can prove to be particularly effective. A further testimony of the commitment of our Group in the constant search for sustainable investments and the collaborative and responsible spirit that has always characterized the presence of DWS in Italy “.
“We are very proud to be able to declare, at the end of this initiative in which we immediately believed a lot, that it was a success. A success that is also possible thanks to the strong collaboration we have always had with local authorities – including the Municipality of Valmontone, the ASL and the Region – which allowed us to create it within the Outlet and which, for us, was also a way of “giving back” to a territory that has greatly supported us in recent years. But if the HUB worked, and it worked well, it was also thanks to all the health professionals – comments Tomaso Maffioli, CEO of Promos -. This is why with the Property (DWS) we have created a small gift that not only reminds all of them of this unforgettable adventure, but that symbolizes a special thanks for the work done and the commitment shown “.
The event, organized a few days after the official closure of the structure, was a moment of synthesis of the work of these 8 months and was an opportunity to thank, with a concert by the army band, all the Police Forces , institutions, organizations and the territory for having contributed to the success of this initiative.
For the occasion, Cristina LoVullo, Director of the Valmontone Outlet, also gave the health workers and nurses, who in recent months have alternated to ensure the operation of the Hub, a small gift, made by the center that for the entire period hosted them, which bore the inscription “220,000 times THANK YOU”.
