This was decided by the EU: insurance therefore also for stationary or unused vehicles. Squeeze on arrival also for scooters
The insurance will always be paid, even if the vehicle is not used. Even those who park their car in their own yard or garage or on private land will still have to have third party auto insurance. And this regardless of the fact that the vehicle is not put into circulation. Only those vehicles that constitute a wreck, ie without wheels or engines, are saved. The decision was made by the European Union which, with a directive that in large part cannot be waived, requires insurance coverage for cars and motorbikes kept stationary.
The European directive on motor liability was finally approved last week by the European Parliament, and among other things it also no longer allows you to suspend an automobile liability insurance policy when you are not using the vehicle. As for the coverage obligation for scooters, pedal assisted bicycles and electric micro-mobility vehicles in general, it will only be at the discretion of the individual Member States. And, in this regard, Italy is moving to impose a squeeze on these vehicles as well.
However, the news will not take effect immediately: Member States will have two years to adapt.
