MotoGP, Misano Grand Prix: the Good, the Bad and the Ugly

One Sunday, too many emotions. The tears of world champion Quartararo, the warmth that invested Valentino in his last Misano, the satisfaction on Marquez’s face, the sadness in Bagnaia’s eyes. Stories that cross, overlap and sometimes collide. Stories of different drivers, young and old, written with the same passion. The one that sometimes makes us happy, others suffer.

It is MotoGP, easier to live than to tell about it.

THE BEAUTIFUL – Forty-two years one, 22 the other, the end and the beginning, yellow and blue, a romantic ballad and pounding techno. Valentino Rossi and Fabio Quartararo mirrored each other. Misano is theirs, for several reasons. For the Doctor the farewell to racing in front of the yellow people, for El Diablo the victory that puts him in Olympus. Ministers and presidents congratulated them, the best hug they received was that of the fans. A day that neither of us will forget.

THE UGLY – He made a mistake in the start, he fell involving Petrucci, he abdicated without ever being in the dance for a new coronation. Suzuki is no longer that of last year and neither is Joan Mir. The defending champion is the shadow of himself, the light switch must be hidden somewhere, in him or in the box. There is a whole winter to find it.

THE BAD – In Moto2 it was a head to head between Fernandez and Gardner, for those who managed to lose the title. Raul lay down, Remy deserved a penalty. There is no longer anyone in the ranking to be able to take advantage of their mistakes and for this they can thank heaven. Two races remain, hoping that the show is better.

THE DISAPPOINTMENT – Dovizioso hoped that the Yamaha would be the bike of his dreams, at Misano it seemed the one of his nightmares. The jury concedes all the mitigating circumstances to the third race on the M1, but the verdict of the time trial is merciless. On the easiest bike (as legend has it) his most difficult race.

CONFIRMATION – Bastianini is allergic to dry lap, there is no doubt about that. Enea is exalted in the race, this too is proof of denial. They are the two faces of the Beast, which merge into the smile on the podium. Who knows what will happen when qualifying also comes out with a hole. We have an idea.

THE ERROR – Whoever falls pays, collects the pieces of the championship and it is more than enough punishment. Logical that Bagnaia should not fall, logical that he should try to win. In this impasse of thought remains the consolation of having tried.

THE SURPRISE – Marc Marquez has become bipartisan, he wins both on the right and on the left, in the direction of the curves. Something not so obvious, indeed unexpected. Like a Honda double, which hasn’t been seen since Pedrosa’s days. Marc has elegantly left the spotlight on Quartararo, but now he knows he can fight to get them back.

THE PASS – All those of Dennis Foggia, missile by name and factor. His collection of podiums and victories continues, he gets closer and closer to Acosta and at this point nothing is impossible. Another show of strength.

THE CURIOSITY – For Petrucci a cake to celebrate his birthday and (perhaps) his last GP in Italy. Too bad Mir dropped it.

I TOLD YOU SO – After the 15th place in qualifying Quartararo had already postponed the party: “if nothing strange happens, I will close the championship in Portimao”. Glad I was wrong.
