As per tradition, the exhibition Buona la prima! Returns for the third consecutive year to the Kasa dei Libri, now in its 4th edition, which saw its first stop in Villacidro by the Dessì Foundation.
The journalist and expert in editorial graphics Stefano Salis, creator and curator of the exhibition, has brought together a group of competent judges, increased for this edition to 25, who every day confront the book by profession and passion, in order to select the best ones. covers released in the Italian edition in 2020 and in the first months of 2021, without limitations of genre, format or commercial intent.

In this edition, the curator’s homage goes to Roberto Calasso, who passed away this summer, protagonist of Italian publishing history with Adelphi.

The intent behind this review is to show what is most interesting and innovative in our bookstores starting from their appearance, the cover, which must not simply be “beautiful” but reveal an idea in harmony with the content.
Putting the emphasis on the physical book, enhancing its peculiarities, fits perfectly with the philosophy of Kasa by Andrea Kerbaker, among the jurors, where there are more than 30 thousand volumes, each with its own uniqueness of object.

The winner of this edition is the cover of Pianura, a novel by Marco Belpoliti, created by the Einaudi graphic office with photos by Luigi Ghirri, selected by the author himself. Among the reasons for the choice, the perfect connection between appearance and content, as explained by Valentina Notarbernardino, among the jury: “Fog as far as the eye can see. Luigi Ghirri’s full-page photography eliminates graphic boundaries and immediately catapults us into the plain (Po Valley) of the title. Evidence and mystery: Belpoliti’s words will be necessary for the focus. “
