Milan – “Today the great metropolises they are measured on the ability to reduce road congestion and improve travel. On the ability to make public transport more attractive than private means of transport“. She is convinced of it Arianna Censi, exponent of the Democratic Party, municipal councilor for mobility in the second council led by the mayor Giuseppe Sala and former deputy of the same Hall in the Metropolitan City.

Councilor Censi, what is your priority regarding public transport?

“The public transport system within the city of Milan is excellent. We must make it so also in the metropolitan area and along the lines of the railway and regional trains, along the S and R lines of Trenord. The quality and offer of the Milanese public transport system must be extended to a wider scope. And this is an issue that we must and want to address together with the Local Public Transport Agency and together with the Lombardy Region, also because increasing the services and infrastructural equipment inevitably means increasing the costs of managing and maintaining the system. The other priority must be to ensure safety “.

Security understood in what sense?

“We have to keep working because the fear caused by the pandemic is overcome. Even today there are those who are afraid of taking public transport because they suspect that they may be a vehicle of contagion from Coronavirus, although studies and numbers have denied this link and despite the great work done every day by Atm and my predecessor, Marco Granelli, in organizing the sanitation of buses, trams and underground trains. We need to raise the percentage of passengers on public transport, reduced due to the pandemic “.

How do you intend to achieve the objectives just mentioned?

“First of all through a choice of method: I would like to focus on a broad and real sharing of the path and objectives. I would like to convince as many people and interlocutors as possible that the right way to follow is to reduce traffic, improve public transport, develop sustainable mobility and return to public transport “.

Speaking of sustainable mobility: do you think there is a need for other cycle paths than those already put on the agenda by the previous council? And if so, where?

“Everywhere need to create cycle paths. The previous administration made a fair and courageous choice and the new administration will move in continuity with this choice: we will do other cycle paths, some only tracked, others protected, with the aim of connecting the existing tracks, of joining them where there are interruptions between one and the other. And this will be true above all for the connections between the city and the metropolitan area, both of which must be better integrated also through cycle paths “.

A few examples?

“It’s on schedule a cycle path that will connect Milan to the Idroscalo and, therefore, to the existing slopes of Segrate and Peschiera Borromeo “.

Will this council eliminate the stop on the road from Corso Buenos Aires to improve the usability of the cycle path, an idea that Mayor Sala, before the polls, said he wanted to pursue?

“I don’t know when and how this will happen. Surely there is and will be a reasoning on this choice, which is in line with the principle of” making room “. today destined to park cars which, however, are used for parking only at certain times of the day, while at other times they remain empty.

After Area C and Area B, do you need other limited traffic areas, in your opinion?

“The regulatory system of Area C and Area B does not require significant changes. It can and should be done act on technology, in order to make the functioning of both more and more efficient and clear. We have not yet talked about other large areas with limited traffic within the municipal council “.

Among the detractors of many choices made by the center-left Giunte in recent years are taxi drivers. What measures do you have in mind for white cars?

“I will meet the taxi drivers on Tuesday. First of all I want to listen. I start by listening to each other”.

Another node: the Subway 4. Is there any brightening of the opening date of the Linate-Forlanini Fs mini-section?

“I will also meet the M4 company shortly. Right now I have no different elements than those already known”.
