The Track Cycling World Championships in Roubaix are coming to a great end for Italy. Two medals on the last day, first the silver in the madison of the couple formed by Simone Consonni and Michele Scartezzini, then the trinfo of Elia Viviani, gold in the elimination. Italy closes with a dream medal table: 10 times on the podium with 4 golds, 3 silvers and 3 bronzes.
Tris for Consonni
In Roubaix the blue duo scored 64 points and was only beaten by Denmark (Michael Morkov and Lasse Norman Hansen, who respected the prediction on the eve) with 68 points. Bronze to Belgium (62 points) of the tandem Kenny De Ketele-Robbe Ghys. For Consonni it is a historic trio after winning gold in Tokyo 2020 in the team pursuit and, last Thursday, always the most prestigious medal in the same race. The extraordinary season of Italian sport really never seems to end.
For Viviani a first at the World Cup
Elia Viviani, who was the 2016 Olympic champion on the track in the omnium (and bronze in Tokyo) but never world champion so far, preceded the Portuguese Iúri Leitão, silver, and the Russian Sergey Rostovtsev, bronze in the elimination.
