Sara Sofia Goggia the blue flag bearer at the next Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics (4-20 February). The national council held this morning at Palazzo H, at the Foro Italico, unanimously designated the Olympic champion of downhill in Pyeongchang 2018, on the proposal of the president of Coni, Giovanni Malagò. As announced by Malagò himself at the press conference, at the end of the meeting, the standard-bearer for the closing ceremony will instead be the blue snowboarder Michela Moioli, also a gold medalist in Pyeongchang. The Italian flag will be delivered to the two athletes on 23 December, at 12 noon, when the Italian delegation for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games will be received at the Quirinale by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
Malagò: “Goggia and Moioli beautiful blue fairy tale”
“Goggia and Moioli are the two girls of the final show of the Milan-Cortina 2026 candidacy which was extraordinarily successful. A beautiful story that ends in the best way”, said the president of Coni Giovanni Malagò. “We wanted to establish the criterion according to which whoever has won a gold medal has a just right to be consecrated. At the last Olympics in Pyeongchang 2018 they had won in three:
Arianna Fontana, who had already been the blue standard bearer, as well as Sofia Goggia and Michela Moioli. It will be a very important ceremony, because there will be the handover of the flag between the mayor of Beijing and those of Milan and Cortina in view of 2026 “.
