Apple has announced the third generation of the AirPods. The design remains the same tested since 2016 with some finishes, the addition of resistance against water (they are IPX4 certified) and support for Dolby Atmos with dynamic head position detection.

For example, the new AirPods have a more streamlined style and the angle has been revised to improve listening. AirPods 3 integrate a new low distortion driver designed by Apple and also include adaptive equalizer technology, introduced with the AirPods Max headphones, which personalizes the audio experience in real time.

Furthermore, Apple has added the force sensor of the AirPods Pro to the AirPods, which recognizes the pressure to pause playback or to switch between songs. The case of the new AirPods is compatible with the MagSafe charging system.

The range has been increased up to 6 hours of playback; 5 minutes of charging guarantees an hour of use, according to Apple’s estimates. Considering the charging provided by the case, in total the autonomy of the AirPods 3 reaches 30 hours.

The AirPods 3 they cost 199 euros and can be pre-ordered from today. They will be available for purchase in stores from 26 October.

New plan for Apple Music

Apple has also announced new colors for HomePod Mini (yellow, orange and blue), which will be available from November also in Italy for 99 euros.

HomePod Mini had been announced in 2020, but Italy was not among the launch markets: it is the first time, therefore, that Apple’s living room assistant makes its debut on the Italian market, considering that HomePod, launched in the United States in 2018 and then discontinued in favor of HomePod Mini, it has never been marketed.

Linked to the “hands-free” use of HomePod Mini, Apple also presented Voice, a further plan of its Apple Music streaming service that can only be used via Siri voice commands and only by one person at a time.

Although the intended use experience is that of HomePod Mini, which can only be used via voice, Voice supports all Apple devices. It will cost 4.99 euros and will therefore represent the cheapest plan of Apple Music. It will be available in a generic fall. The prices of the other Apple Music plans remain unchanged: 9.99 euros for the individual one and 14.99 euros for the family one (six accounts).

Users can subscribe to the Voice plan by asking the virtual assistant “Hey Siri, start Apple Music Voice free trial”; the free trial can also be activated from the application.

In addition to the Voice plan, Apple has also announced a function of personalized playlist suggestions from Siri based on both the user’s tastes and the mood required (a romantic music for dinner or something more dynamic for the physical activity, for example).
