The delivery of the award in Pietrasanta

The prestigious award dedicated to the inventors of the internal combustion engine delivered to Pietrasanta.

Alberto Bombassei, founder and president of Brembo, was awarded the twentieth Barsanti and Matteucci International Award dedicated to the inventors of the internal combustion engine. This year marks the bicentenary of the birth of the scopolio father, Father Eugenio Barsanti, born in Pietrasanta on 21 October 1821, who together with the engineer Felice Matteucci invented the external combustion engine in 1854.

The award, promoted by the Municipality of Pietrasanta and the Rotary Club Viareggio Versilia with the patronage of the University of Pisa and the collaboration with the Ximenian Observatory of Florence and the Massimo Del Chiaro Art Foundry and the patronage of the Tuscany Region and the Province of Lucca , was delivered as part of the traditional ceremony held in the Cloister of Sant’Agostino on Sunday 17 October. It was the mayor, Alberto Stefano Giovannetti who presented the bronze award made by the Massimo Del Chiaro Art Foundry. Present at the ceremony were the governor of the Tuscany Region, Eugenio Giani and Senator Massimo Mallegni.

In previous editions, the award was given to various Italian and international personalities from the automotive world including Giorgetto Giugiaro and Gerhard Ertl, Nobel Prize winner and inventor of the catalytic converter, to astronauts Maurizio Cheli and Jessica Kite, to the technical and research director of Rolls-Royce, Philips Ruffles, Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa and Bosch CEO Gabriele Allievi.
