The American space agency thus presented theInternational Observe the Moon night 2021, the event established in 2010 to make our satellite appreciated. Thanks to social networks and the Network, today, Saturday 16 October, you can connect to the channels of NASA to admire the Moon from every corner of the globe, now in its first quarter.

Where to follow the night of the moon

A particular point of view will be that of Marshall Flight Center in Alabama, NASA research center. Here, at 1 am tonight, a live broadcast will start to observe the Moon all together, also visible on the YouTube channel or on the official Facebook account. There will be telescopes aimed at the satellite that will frame it closely, explaining in detail some of its details and giving more information about Viper, the next NASA mission that will search for water on the lunar surface. There is certainly no better occasion than the “night of the moon” to talk about upcoming missions. “It’s an amazing time to celebrate the Moon with all people on Earth – they continue from the agency – Whether at home, outdoors, online or wherever you are ».

Live events

In Italy there are also a hundred live proposals. Between reports of the Italian Amateur Astronomers Union (Uai), official partner of the lunar night, for tonight we discover the upside-down observations of the La Spezia Astrophiles Association in Ceparana while the La Spezia Astronomical Research Institute has devised a “lunar” themed game at the Monte Viseggi Observatory. We remain in the North with the Cinisello Balsamo Astrofili Group and its observational evening at the Presolana Astronomical Observatory in Castione della Presolana while Ravenna becomes literary with «The Dantesque Moon» at the Classense library. In Umbertide the members of the Paolo Maffei Perugia amateurs’ association set up their telescopes also helping beginners while the magnificent Malatesta Castle of Longiano (Forlì-Cesena) offers exhibitions of astronomical photos and instruments, informative conferences and observations.

Around Rome, the Tuscan Astronomy Association offers two locations in the heart of Rocca di Papa (Rome) and on Lake Nemi (Rome). the Capodimonte Astronomical Observatory in Naples with the observation organized by the Neapolitan amateur astronomers union and the Syracuse astronomical observation and dissemination center which brings its instruments to Balza Akradina.
