A year has already passed since the death of Jole Santelli, who was both parliamentary and governor of the Calabria Region. Today, in the Sala Zuccari of the Senate, the stamp dedicated to the memory of a woman who was an integral part of the history of Forza Italia and of Italian politics was presented. An initiative – this one of the postage stamp – wanted by the Ministry of Economic Development.
Many authorities gathered around the memory of Santelli: from the president of the Senate Maria Alberti Casellati to the president of Poste Maria Bianca Farina. But the initiative was also attended by the president of the State Printing and Mint Institute, Antonio Palma, the Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, the Vice President of the Chamber, Andrea Mandelli and the President emeritus of the Senate, Marcello Pera. The moderation of the event was entrusted to Anna La Rosa.
Among the first interventions, that of the forced senator Fulvia Michela Caligiuri, who is Calabrian like Santelli: “Today’s – said the parliamentarian – is a day that we will remember because we celebrate the commitment of a woman, Jole Santelli, who wrote the history of Calabrian and national politics. vision, creativity and stubbornness has always defended Calabria determined to make its beauties, history and culture known. One year after its untimely death, its memory remains vivid in the memory of all of us Calabrians “.
Then the word went to Nino Spirlì, former vicar president of the Region: “Today – he pointed out – is a just recognition to Jole, who in addition to being the first female president of the Calabria Region is the one who opened the doors of the building to ordinary people, breaking down walls and palisades between the houses of the citizens and the rooms of the administration of public affairs “. And again the senator Maurizio Gasparri: “The friendship with Jole – declared the former minister – was ancient and sincere, we then crossed our political paths and there remains a great regret for what he could still do and for the affection that we could still express “.
The Deputy Minister of Economic Development Pichetto Fratin he began, saying he was “particularly honored” by the presentation of the stamp, which is one “of the main tools through which the State enhances the characters, institutions and peculiar aspects of its history, culture and tradition, making public its gratitude for those who have represented, thanks to their merits and virtues, what is best and positive the national community can express, as well as to celebrate the most characteristic events and places of the Peninsula “. The president emeritus of the Senate Marcello Pera gave a moving speech: “I have a painful and difficult task. Because we don’t talk about pain and the difficulty is obvious. How do you talk about a dear friend who never wanted to be talked about? – Pera insisted – to talk about a friend who shunned every compliment and who hid from any appreciation that was made? “. And yet – he added – “Jole was an example. And her life was a life of witness. She was a typical militant of the original Forza Italia. The beautiful, good, good and serious Italian bourgeoisie”.
To underline the intervention of Gianni Letta, who also remarked the “emotion” of the president emeritus of the Senate. The politician and journalist underlined Santelli’s “passion” for the battles over Justice. The same passion that had “first infected President Berlusconi”, who had understood – said Letta – how Santelli had dealt well with “the tormented problem of justice”. “Dear Jole – finally wrote the senator and group leader Anna Maria Bernini on Instagram -, how much we miss you! On the anniversary of the death of our Jole, the Ministry of Economic Development issued an ordinary stamp dedicated to Jole Santelli. Three hundred thousand copies to commemorate a woman and an extraordinary politics, which was taken away from us too soon “.
