Split by the Trentino Carabinieri a partnership dedicated to drug trafficking and dealing between the provinces of Trento, Bolzano, Rome, Mantua, Verona, Vicenza and Treviso. The operation called “Green Water”, resulting from the investigative activity of the carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Trento, under the direction of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, allowed to execute a precautionary custody order issued by the investigating judge against 16 people . These are 13 Nigerians, 2 Italians and 1 Albanian, all held responsible for various reasons of criminal association, aimed at trafficking and dealing in drugs. In addition, 45 personal and local searches were ordered which also affected the Piacenza and Lecce wards.
The investigative activity conducted by the Carabinieri by the Investigative Unit of Trento between October 2019 and December 2020, under the direction of the local Public Prosecutor’s Office – District Anti-Mafia Directorate, made it possible to identify and dismantle a sales network that mainly fed the well-known Piazza Dante. Where, for some time, every week the police have been engaged in activities to combat drug dealing.
The military worked meticulously on the operation, which was also characterized by wiretapping. Their efforts made it possible to bring to justice the heads of a real “national sorting center”, managed by a group of Italians in Rome, who, using a Nigerian criminal organization, carried out shipments, on request, in large numbers. part of the peninsula, with particular interests in the North-East, including Trento, Bolzano and Trieste, where several tens of kilograms of marijuana were delivered every day that arrived in Italy from Albania, through the Otranto canal.
Investigators were able to document the “drug journey” in detail. The drug, wrapped in several layers of cellophane impregnated with ethanol to hide the smell, reached Trento thanks to Nigerian couriers, enlisted to the need, who also traveled aboard high-speed trains. By monitoring the movements of the couriers, the military managed to identify different supply channels and implement various seizures, ascertaining that several provinces of the North-East, from which the drugs sold in Trentino originated, were in turn supplied by the group of Nigerians. , operating in Rome.
The long and meticulous activity of observation, analysis and feedback of the carabinieri has made it possible to document the movements of the associates in a timely manner and to acquire elements based on the internal hierarchy of the association, the methods of management and control of the outlet on the territory, outlining the profiles of a real organized structure, able to ensure protection to affiliates, both in terms of legal assistance, for judicial vicissitudes, and for the physical defense of adepts from competing criminal groups.
Further proof of how flourishing the intercepted traffic was, was given by the rapid expansion of the local Nigerian criminal group, which in a short time became structured and extended its operational capacity also in the neighboring province of Bolzano.
The overall activity has led to operating not only in the provinces of Atesine and Rome, but also in Lecce, Mantua, Piacenza, Treviso, Verona and Vicenza, with the arrest of 21 people, the subjecting of a further 9 to the ban on residence in reality in which they live, the direct seizure of 16 kilograms of marijuana, destined to supply the Trentino squares and the acquisition of elements of crime against an additional 31 suspects, tracing back to the group, in the period, the seizures of another 604 kilos of marijuana and 17 hashish.
Three of the people under investigation are in the province of Bolzano. All three are Nigerans. One lives and works in Lana, already reported for drug dealing by the Bolzano carabinieri. One lives in Bressanone and is convicted of drug dealing. The last is homeless in Bolzano, where he was spotted selling drugs at the station park (a place where he was stopped several times by the police) and was already convicted in 2018 for participating in the transport of African illegal immigrants across the Brenner Pass. towards Northern Europe.
The custody in prison hit one person in Trento, two in Rome, three in Verona and one in Treviso. The other measures concern residence bans in the provinces of Trento, Verona, Bolzano, Vicenza, Mantua, Rome.
