Timo Werner leads the Germans with a brace, who with two games to spare have a pass for Qatar thanks also to the defeat of Armenia in Romania
With 21 points in 8 games, Germany is the first national team to qualify for the World Cup to be held in Qatar in 2022. At least on the pitch, given that a place belongs by right to the host country. For the Germans it is decisive the 4-0 trimmed in Skopje to North Macedonia, which is coupled with the fall of Armenia against Romania (1-0). These are the only two national teams that could have undermined Hans-Dieter Flick’s team in the two remaining matches. Romania is now in second place in group J of the world qualifiers, with 13 points.
Germany thus manages to avenge the sensational home defeat remedied against North Macedonia in March, the only misstep (so far) of the path that led them to the World Cup, where they hope to redeem the opaque proof of the last European. The challenge against Elmas and his teammates immediately starts downhill, but despite a dominated first half, the Germans are unable to break free. A goleada only postponed and triggered by Havertz in the 55th minute, author of the first goal. At that point, Timo Werner is unleashed, who slips a brace in three minutes (from 70 ‘to 73’). Jamal Musiala rounds off the result in the 83rd minute with a nice shot.
