“Targeted use of tampons” and quarantines that are triggered only after three cases of positivity in the classroom for students over 12 years of age. The document is awaiting signature by the Regions
Swabs for all classmates in case of positive to avoid distance learning: this would be one of the main points of the official document that the Ministry of Health, Education and Higher Institute of Health prepared to change the rules of quarantine at school and avoid interruptions in face-to-face teaching as much as possible. The official visa is still missing, which will arrive after the green light of the Regions expected for next week, but the indications coming from the government would meet the requests of school leaders, who have been asking for univocal indications for days to reduce the time of quarantine, and the trade unions, which note differences in the management of cases on the national territory. Currently the quarantine lasts ten days for the unvaccinated and seven for the vaccinated, at least for students aged 12 and over. The intention is to go “towards a containment of the quarantine for those who are vaccinated”, as anticipated by the Minister of Education Patrizio Bianchi. And, as explained by the president of the Higher Institute of Health Silvio Brusaferro, this containment will take place through “the targeted use of tampons that can allow, precisely due to the specific nature of the contact, to allow teaching in the presence”.
With the new rules, therefore, the classroom lessons would not immediately stop: if the classmates of the positive are all negative on the test, the teaching can be continued in person. After 5 days the swabs are repeated, and in the event that there is another positive, the unvaccinated pupils will have to go into dad, while the vaccinated ones will be able to remain in the classroom. Only if there are three positives in the classroom, then the quarantine is triggered for all, ten days for the unvaccinated and seven for the vaccinated, exactly as it happens now. For students under 12, quarantine is triggered for everyone after two positive cases in the classroom. In kindergartens and nurseries, quarantine would start immediately. However, it is not certain that this solution does not meet any resistance: “Too small quarantines do not convince us, we fear transmission of the virus too fast,” says Elvira Serafini, secretary of Snals.
