With this winter the flu could return and according to experts, the consequences could be more serious than expected. In the UK it is thought that the flu virus could cause the death of 60,000 people, for this reason a dense campaign has begun for the prevention and the request for vaccination.
Cases of coronavirus, flu and other respiratory infections are likely to increase in the coming months, experts say, culminating in increased hospital admissions and growing pressure on health services across England. Deputy Medical Director Professor Jonathan Van-Tam said the lack of flu last year made the threat this winter a “significant public health concern”.
According to models from the Academy of Medical Sciences, the lack of immunity of the population due to its suppression in the last year by Covid restrictions could contribute to between 15,000 and 60,000 deaths from flu. C.as part of the new goals, the national health service aims to extend the flu vaccine to at least 85% of people aged 65 and over. It also hopes to reach at least 75% of people with previous health conditions, at least 75% of pregnant women, 70% of eligible children and at least 85% of all health and social care workers.
