Traffic in Rome is returning to that in the pre-Covid era. For the second consecutive day, the streets of the capital, from the Grande Raccordo Anulare to the center, have a red dot. A scenario that many motorists were no longer used to. With the reopening of schools and the green light to return to presence in many workplaces, the arteries inside and outside the city are again flooded also because the Romans – perhaps for fear of the risk of contagion – are still skeptical in choosing public transport .
Atac, already requested by the Prefecture to reopen the Castro Pretorio stations (which also serves the Mef, the Ministry of Agriculture, Defense and the FS offices) and Policlinico with the latter which, in addition to the hospital, is an important hub for university students, in recent days he stressed that “the demand for transport has increased, but remains well below the pre-Covid level”. In short, there is some fear for users, and here many choose to take the private vehicle to go to work or to university, or to accompany their children to school.
In the morning today, as happened yesterday, just connect to the Luceverde website to see how the street map of the city has a red dot. On the east ring road traffic slows down due to the stretch between the intersection of the exit for Largo Rodolfo Lanciani and via dei Monti Tiburtini and the intersection for the exit with via Salaria and Villa Ada towards Piazzale degli Eroi. In via Tuscolana queue between via Scribonio Curione and via di Porta Furba. Similar situations in via Appia Nuova, via Tiburtina, Pontina, Cristoforo Colombo towards Rome, via Salaria, via dei Monti Tiburtini, via di Prati Fiscali and via di Boccea, to name a few.
Traffic also due to rear-end collisions. Fortunately, slight, but such as to send the traffic into a tailspin in via di Conca d’Oro and via Carlo Felice. In southern Rome, however, there is still traffic between Ostiense and Trastevere due to the closure of the Ponte di Ferro, in the stretch of road between via Pacinotti and via del Commercio in both directions.
Traffic that, in Rome, is spreading patchily due to the many active construction sites, leading many buses to divert their routes and flood the roads. In the north quadrant road works in via Panama involving the diversion of two bus lines. In the east quadrant for works and inconveniences in via delle Case Rosse height viale del Tecnopolo. In the western quadrant of the city, however, there are works in viale dei Colli Portuensi, between the Gianicolense ring road and via di Monteverde. In the center, in addition to the construction site in via del Tritone, works also in via di San Basilio and via dell’Amba Aradam, involving the diversion of buses 61, 62, 85, 492, 590, n5, n46, n543, nM, 81, 714, 792 and nMC.
And the situation on the streets, in the next week, could get worse. According to an estimate, from 15 October, about 300 thousand people will return to public offices: Rome is the city of ministries, whose competence for timetables and presence at headquarters is national. It is therefore not excluded that, in this case, it will be up to the Prefect to determine what the return to work time slots could be, thus using the same method used for schools to dilute traffic in the city as much as possible.
