The first discovery took place in 2016, the researchers immediately understood the extraordinary nature of that wood that emerged from the sand, four meters deep, off the Croatian island of Ilovik, in Kvarner. Since then, every year scholars, technicians, divers and photographers reach the submerged ship, move the sand and try to understand the secrets that that boat of over 2 thousand years hides. Leading the research team is Giulia Boetto, a specialist in ancient naval archeology.
