Verona, 6 October 2021 – Sprout seven suspects in the Citrobacter Infection Investigation broke out at the hospital of the mother and child, where 89 babies were reportedly killed or harmed from infection. The outbreak had broken out from a contaminated faucet, from which water was drawn for the preparation of powdered milk. After long and careful investigations, the Verona Public Prosecutor’s Office entered seven people in the register of suspects – between former managers and doctors of the hospital – with the offenses of manslaughter and negligent injuries serious and very serious in the health sector.
The seven professionals investigated had already been joined by administrative measures by the company Ulss of Verona. This is the former general manager Francesco Cobello, current director of the Public Health School Foundation, and of Chiara Bovo, former health director and now director of the hospital function in Schiavonia, Padua. The medical director of the facility, Giovanna, is also under investigation Garland, the head of Pediatrics, Paolo Perch, the director of the Infectious Diseases Department, Evelina Tacconelli e Giuliana Lo Cascio, former primary acting head of the Department of Microbiology and Virology, now in Piacenza. Biban, Bovo, Ghirlanda and Lo Cascio had been suspended on 5 September 2020, with a provision by the former director general Cobello, then returned to work.
