“I’m really happy”. These are the only words spoken by the former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont at the exit of the Court of Appeal of Sassari after the suspension of the extradition procedure against him.
“We believe we have obtained an absolutely positive result, the Court has accepted the conclusions formulated by the pg and myself”, commented the lawyer Agostinangelo Marras instead. Puigdemont left the court between the hugs of his party mates and the cheers of the Sardinian, Corsican and Basque separatists.
The Spanish judge Pablo Llarena sent official communications to the Sassari Court of Appeal to remind that, as in the case of the former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont, arrest orders he issued are also valid for Clara Ponsatí and Toni Comín, former councilors regional authorities who went to Sardinia to support him as he faces a hearing relating to his arrest in Alghero ten days ago. The Iberian media reported it. Judge Llarena had asked the same court in recent days for the “immediate surrender” of Puigdemont. Now he claims to have received news “from various media” that Ponsatí and Comín may also be in Sardinia. The two were not arrested upon arrival in Italy. Both are MEPs with suspended immunity from European justice.
