A preventive seizure of assets worth about 50 million euros was carried out by the carabinieri of Bari against the 52-year-old building contractor from Molfetta Giuseppe Manganelli, formerly under special surveillance.

The seizure concerns 16 buildings, including the villa, overlooking the sea, where it resides, four lands, for a total extension of about 5 thousand square meters, 5 companies including Unione Petroli srl with an annual turnover of about 20 million euros, 6 vehicles and a pleasure boat, 11 current accounts and stakes in an investment fund. The measure was ordered by the Court of Bari, section of prevention measures, at the request of the DDA, highlighting the “high social dangerousness” of the former drug trafficker entrepreneur.

According to the investigations of the Bari District Anti-Mafia Directorate, Manganelli, thanks to a “fruitful criminal career”, would have accumulated and concealed “large sums of money, most likely the proceeds of the drug trafficking and extortion activities to which he was engaged in the 90s. “, thus founding” his financial and entrepreneurial empire “.

In fact, starting from 2011, the 52-year-old, after 12 years of detention for robbery, a criminal association aimed at drug trafficking and extortion, would have started investing in the construction sector, “also thanks to the fictitious interposition of some figureheads”, explain the investigators . Thus he would have built the first companies and diversified investments, “with operations no longer limited to the construction sector alone, but also extended to the fuel distribution sector”, through a system of “Chinese boxes, implemented by the entrepreneur to conceal the illicit origin of his financial wealth “.
