The challenge that will see the winners of Europeans and Copa America face off: it starts with three editions
The idea was born in July, immediately after Saka’s penalty saved by Donnarumma that he had crowned Italy champion of Europe: why not organize a match against Argentina (who had won the Copa America two days earlier) in memory of Diego Armando Maradona? The idea was liked by Fifa but also by Uefa and Conmebol who announced the establishment of a new competition which, in fact, will see clash the national champion of Europe against the champion of South America.
The first of the three editions with which you will depart is expected to June 2022, precise date and venue yet to be confirmed: the fact that the World Cup is moved to winter gives the Azzurri and the Albiceleste selection a summer window which, otherwise, would have been almost impossible to identify.
This sort of “intercontinental cup for national teams” is part of theextension of the collaboration between Uefa, the ‘government’ of European football and Conmebol, homologue for South America.
