Two workers died in a liquid nitrogen deposit at the headquarters of the Humanitas Mirasole hospital in Pieve Emanuele, in via Rita Levi Montalcini, in the Milanese area. This is what the firefighters report.

The two workers, 42 and 46 years old and whose personal details are not yet known, worked for Sol, an external company and were filling a liquid nitrogen tank located under the stairs of the warehouse. They were run over by the substance and died from freeze burns, possibly due to a nitrogen leak.

The dynamics of the accident are under investigation. Several hypotheses are being examined: frostbite or intoxication burns the main ones. The area has been secured. The bodies were found by the security officer who, alerted by the alarm, arrived in the depot and called 118.

One of the main uses of liquid nitrogen at the hospital level is the cooling of refrigerators that store drugs or biological artifacts. It can reach a temperature of 70 degrees below zero. The Milan prosecutor is investigating the case, the hypothesis is manslaughter. On the spot the judicial police team of the department led by the adjunct Tiziana Siciliano and an Ats doctor as well as the carabinieri and the firefighters.
