Moments of fear in Piazza della Signoria in Florence. The collapse of a scaffolding mounted on the arengarium of Palazzo Vecchio injured a 74-year-old man, who was rescued and hospitalized from 118 with a yellow code. The man has a 5-day prognosis for a severe contusion.
The collapse concerns one of the high-altitude holding pylons of the lighting system (lights and reflectors) of a stage set up for an event that took place on Saturday evening. The firefighters went to the scene who secured the area, isolating it, and immediately started technical checks to determine the cause and dynamics of the event.
The incident drew the attention of many people walking in the square who remained to observe the area of the collapse where the elements of the scaffolding that collapsed can be seen on the ground, or unsafe in midair. The traffic police also intervened for the surveys.
