Covid, ISS monitoring: “Contagions are falling across Europe, Italy better than other countries”

The trend of the pandemic curve “decreases across Europe”. This was stated by the president of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, Silvio Brusaferro, at the weekly press conference on the control room Covid monitoring data. “Although Italy is still characterized by a lower value than the others, even in other countries the circulation is decreasing”. How do you explain, however, that Italy has even better values than other countries? “Thanks to the extra caution and prudence.” And at the curve it decreases but not among the younger groups: In the “younger age groups, the contagion from Covid is decreasing except for the 0-9 age group which remains stable”.

Vaccines under the age of 12
“In the last week, the 0-12 age group shows stability and therefore does not continue to decline and this is an issue that we are monitoring carefully”. Brusaferro always says so. He adds: «We are waiting for more data to understand if it will be possible to vaccinate even at that age. For now it is early ».

The vaccination campaign
There is a growth in the data on vaccines: the 20-29 range grows rapidly, 82% with the first dose. “The effectiveness is over 95% with regard to deaths and hospitalizations and this is especially true for the more advanced age groups,” says Brusaferro.

Dynamic rules for quarantine
«Today we have rules that define the possibility of quarantine even for vaccinated people. It is a dynamic system that we can reconsider in the coming weeks if there is different scientific evidence »explained Brusaferro.

The incidence figure is positive: less than 50 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants

The very positive data today is the drop in incidence below 50 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, which is a threshold value to allow monitoring of the epidemic. All parameters are decreasing including employment rates in the medical area and in intensive care. “It is still early to see a possible effect of schools – added the director of Prevention of the Ministry of Health Gianni Rezza – but in the next two weeks we will be able to verify if the reopening will have influenced the incidence and the Rt index. For now the data are positive thanks above all to the vaccination campaign and to the management of reopening in which Italy excels ».
