A night rain delayed this morning’s test session at the Misano circuit. Marc Marquez and Pol Espargarò thus began shooting at 2 pm, after the lunch break, when the weather had cleared. The duo made use of the entire session, completing a total of 112 laps.
Espargaro spent the first day of testing working on his driving style and developing various components for Honda RC213V. He completed a total of 65 laps, with a best time of 1’31 “631 which puts him in second place in the overall standings and a tenth behind Bagnaia. The time trial was 3 tenths faster than his time in Q2.
“I am really satisfied with how it went today overall – Pol tells us – we improved our lap time in Q2, I was one of the only riders to do it today. The most important improvement today was in the race pace, it was much better than at the weekend. We worked a lot on the ideas we had during the races but unfortunately we didn’t have time to work on last weekend. “
His teammate Marc Marquez had an equally productive day in his 47 laps of the Misano circuit. After finishing fourth in Sunday’s race, he has concluded his test program by signing a best time of 1’32 “448 on his last lap. The time places him 8 tenths from Pol Espargaro and 9 tenths from Bagnaia’s best time.
“Today we tested a bike with some new components – Marc intervenes – and it was very interesting, there was a lot of work to do. I am happy with what we have done, but there will still be a lot of work to do for sure tomorrow. There has been some positive and some negative feedback on what we have tested, but we need more time to understand everything well, also having to be careful not to push too hard so as not to take unnecessary risks“.
Test day also for Stefan Bradl which helped Honda HRC to evaluate various options and evolutions. Marquez and Espargaro will return to the circuit tomorrow for the second and final day of testing at Misano before heading to Austin.
