If in Milan there was the sea … what a delight for you, what a delight for me if there was the sea in Milan: this is the refrain of a Milanese song that expresses the atavistic desire to connect Milan to the sea. This desire could be fulfilled today simply by restoring the Naviglio di Pavia (1807 -1819), the hydraulic mirror of Europe, with a project projected into the future capable of overcoming the tourist success of the Canal of the two seas. Built in France in the second half of the seventeenth century to connect the Mediterranean with the Atlantic, the Canal of the two seas has more than one hundred navigation basins along its 240 km route and yet it is the busiest canal in Europe. The Naviglio di Pavia di conche from Milan to Pavia, along the 30 km of its route, has only eight and the other four, two of which are accolades, are used to overcome the difference in height of about thirty meters, along the 3 km route, between the dock of Pavia and the port of the confluent on the Ticino river. Being more modern than the Canal of the two seas, the first eight basins of the Naviglio di Pavia are equipped with the adjacent rescue canal necessary to guarantee irrigation even during navigation and in the past the water jumps were used to produce hydroelectric energy. . Restoring the Naviglio di Pavia means spending less than 50 million to revive the economy, tourism, the production of energy from renewable sources, pleasure boating, sport, leisure from Milan to Pavia, with positive effects along the entire path. It means helping to complete the Locarno – Arona – Milan – Pavia – Venice connection and thus overcoming the Canal dei due mari in size and attractiveness, as well as satisfying the desire to arrive by house boat, equipped with bicycles, at the Certosa di Pavia, in Pavia, Piacenza, Cremona and from Cremona to the sea.
