Spazio, Giorgetti: Italy has the ambition to host commercial spaceports but attractive regulations are needed

(Teleborsa) – Lo Space it has become a place of “business and profit”, it has become a “market”. This is what the Minister of Economic Development said, Giancarlo Giorgetti, speaking at the conference “G20, Italy for Space” promoted by Leonardo Foundation. “Space has become a market, from a place of competition between governments and states to put the political and geopolitical flag into a place of competition to do business and make a profit,” said Giorgetti. According to Giorgetti, “the economic estimates and general data, however, confirm at a global level how this sector is strategic and solid, where public and private actors converge and new players are also arriving, such as South Korea e Arabia Saudi“.

The minister added that theItaly has the ambition to host “commercial spaceports“, but it is necessary that you equip yourself with regulations that create greater attractiveness. “We are witnessing a race towards light regulations designed to attract more operators or more businesses. This leads many companies to move to the same countries, creating an imbalance in the level of play and representing a handicap for our national industry and our economy”, the minister reported. “Linked to this is the need to regulate the commercial human space flight to allow nascent operators to operate outside the US. This is a further issue to follow, as Italy has ambitions to host commercial spaceports in the near future “, explained Giorgetti.
