Grand Gala on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan organized by the embassy of the Asian country last Wednesday, September 15 at the Parco dei Principi hotel, in the Parioli district of Rome. Over 200 guests attended the event, including representatives of political institutions, finance, science, media, heads and representatives of numerous foreign embassies and international organizations in Rome, including FAO, Ifad and Wfp. Also present was the delegation of the Greek-Eurasian Alliance, as well as guests from the United Kingdom and France.
The Grand Gala began with the performance of the national anthems of Uzbekistan and Italy. The national anthem of Uzbekistan was performed live in Uzbek by the Italian opera singer Sara Pastore and the Italian anthem was performed in Italian by the famous Uzbek artist Zhenisbek Piyazov.
On the big screen was shown the speech of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the event held in Tashkent on the occasion of the jubilee and the tourist and cultural beauties of the country. During his welcome speech, Uzbekistan Ambassador to Italy Otabek Akbarov recounted the large-scale reforms, important for having radically changed the political, socio-economic and cultural aspects of life in the country, as well as its position on the international scene, over the three decadeseight the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for the past five years.

The speech also highlighted a brief overview of relations with Italy, the current new dynamics in their development, reflecting the intensification of political dialogue, the expansion of commercial and economic ties, the increase of high-tech mixed enterprises. and the number of Italian businesses wishing to work in the Republic, as well as a new level of cultural and educational ties.
The speech of Undersecretary Di Stefano
Particular attention was paid to Uzbekistan’s interaction with the United Nations organizations in Rome: FAO, IFAD and WFP, as well as to the prospects for cooperation with Greece.
The guest of honor at the event was the undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Manlio Di Stefano. In his greeting, the undersecretary underlined the intense development of bilateral relations between Italy and Uzbekistan in the political, commercial-economic, investment and education fields. For Di Stefano «strengthening the partnership between Rome and Tashkent was one of the priorities he pursued during his three terms as Secretary of State at the Farnesina». Then the undersecretary fondly recalled his visits to Tashkent in November 2018 and July 2021.
The government exponent confirmed his intention to hold the second “Italy-Central Asia” ministerial meeting in Uzbekistan in November of this year. It was also recalled that the Italo-Uzbek Intergovernmental Working Group on Trade, Economic, Industrial Cooperation and Export will hold their seventh meeting in 2022 in Tashkent.
In the context of cooperation in the economic field, Mr Di Stefano pointed out «the mutual interest on the part of the business communities of the two countries, which is expressed in an increase in bilateral commercial turnover this year by 35%».

The Business Forum, organized in December last year, played an important role in this regard. The Secretary of State expressed full support for Uzbekistan’s aspirations for integration with international and regional institutions, in particular in the process of joining the World Trade Organization and the signing of the Agreement on Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation with the European Union.
