A 70-year-old man, Tigelino Cuccu, lost his life this morning suffocated by a croissant at the San Vincenzo retirement home in Borgaretto, in the municipality of Beinasco. Investigations by the carabinieri of the Moncalieri company are underway on the incident.

According to the first findings of the investigators, it seems that the man, a guest in the nursing home because of behavioral disorders, this morning had entered the kitchen, unbeknownst to the staff, and had taken possession of some breakfast products. It was discovered by an operator of the facility that after stopping him he had walked away to call a nurse.

The seventy-year-old, fearing that the staff would take away the croissants he had taken from the pantry, ate two one after the other but a bite went sideways and choked him. The health staff of the facility immediately intervened to attempt the life-saving maneuvers but there was nothing to be done.

At the moment, no responsibility has emerged on the part of the staff of the structure for the incident but investigations are underway to verify whether the surveillance system and the number of employees were adequate to guarantee the control of all the guests of the structure.
