Pierre Gasly, winner of the last edition of the Italian Grand Prix, will start the 2021 Monza race from the pit lane.
Pierre should have started from the last position after the accident at the Curva Grande in the Sprint Qualifying yesterday afternoon, but the team tried to make the most of the critical situation to unmark a new power unit.
Jo Bauer, technical delegate of the FIA, confirmed that a new heat engine, a new turbo, a new MGU-H and a new MGU-K, but also a new ECU and a new battery have been fitted to the Gasly car.
That’s not all, because the AT02 will also be able to count on a new gearbox. For all these replaced components, Gasly will start from the pit lane.
For Gasly, the comeback will be very complex. He himself, after yesterday’s crash in the Sprint Qualifying, said: “I saw Hamilton struggling a lot. He couldn’t pass Lando. Same thing with Alpine and Aston Martin. You can get very close, but you can’t overtake them.”
“We know it will be very difficult to recover, but at the end of the day it won’t matter much if we finished 18th or 11th. We have to try to do everything we can to try and score points.”
