I video games are they good or bad for your health? The debate may never be closed, but now one studio scientific states that you get to lose up to a maximum of 470 calories in two hours of game. Basically, that’s the equivalent of an hour of cycling or 1,000 sit-ups.
The study was conducted by stakester, a sports platform that allows you to earn money and prizes by playing. Specifically, the study was conducted on the basis of 50 volunteers who played for two hours at FIFA e Call of Duty Warzone. Male candidates lost 420 calories in two hours, while women lost 472 calories over the same amount of time.
You might think this is a strange result, but there have actually been previous tests, in 2020, carried out by the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Australia. According to the research, gamers have a 21% better chance of having a healthier weight than the average population.
“We all know that competition increases our heart rate and many of us have experienced the ‘video game sweat’ that happens when looking for a goal at the last minute playing ‘FIFA’ or having a difficult situation in ‘Call Of Duty: Warzone ‘”he explained Tom Fairey, CEO and founder of Stakester at Men’s Health magazine. “I expected it to show that there was caloric expenditure, but I was surprised at the amount of calories burned.”
Obviously it is about a single study with a fairly limited sample of research, but it could be the basis for wider testing. Furthermore, we must not forget that, regardless of the loss of calories, a video game session certainly does not train the body as much as real physical exercises: the loss of calories is not the only factor to be taken into consideration. In addition, doctors often report that gamers tend to eat unhealthy foods and drinks during gaming sessions, thus eliminating the loss of calories and damaging their health in the long run.
That said, a Call of Duty Warzone session is always a good idea, here’s the September 2nd Playlist update.
