Jan Hecker, German ambassador in China, died a few days after taking office in his office in Beijing. This was announced by the foreign ministry of Berlin, without however specifying the causes of death. Hecker, 54, arrived in the Chinese capital in August after serving as Chancellor Angela Merkel’s foreign policy adviser. “It is with deep sadness and dismay that we learned of the sudden death of the German ambassador to China. Our thoughts at the moment are with his family and the people who were close to him, ”reads a note posted on the ministry’s website. Hecker vhe will be replaced by his deputy, Frank Rueckert.
