(ANSA) – WASHINGTON, SEPTEMBER 05 – A Republican deputy, Michael McCaul, the highest representative of the Grand Old Party in the Foreign Affairs Committee, accused the Taliban on Fox News of not letting Afghans and Americans leave from the airport of the city of Mazar -e-Sharif, contrary to their promises.
According to him, there are planes that have attempted to take off from the airport “in the last two days”. “The State Department has given the green light to these flights and the Taliban will not let them go,” he said, arguing that “they want something in return”.
An NGO confirmed to the BBC that it has people waiting to board one of these flights. Marina LeGree, founder and CEO of the NGO Ascend Athletics, said the number of planes waiting to leave could be more than six and she heard that there could be about 1000 people ready to board. Taliban spokesmen, however, deny, stating that it is propaganda and that in reality many of the passengers do not have the documents required to leave. (HANDLE).
