“Nice couple“, with these words Matteo Salvini has relaunched on social networks a selfie taken with Giorgia Meloni at the Ambrosetti forum in Cernobbio, currently underway on Lake Como. The two center-right leaders met in the Larian town and created a nice curtain in favor of the lens in front of the many photographers present. “Technical government tests“, joked the leader of the League, embracing Giorgia Meloni. Between the two, therefore, there was friendly chatter and big smiles against the backdrop of Lake Como.
With Giorgia Meloni and Matteo Salvini, in this sort of informal meeting that was held at the end of the works at the Ambrosetti forum in Cernobbio in the splendid gardens of Villa d’Este, there was also Giancarlo Giorgetti. The trio was entertained for about 10 minutes, away from prying ears but under the watchful eyes of the small group of onlookers (accredited) who noticed those strange movements a stone’s throw from the lake. Some of those present managed to catch some words, such as Annalisa Cuzzocrea de the Republic, who reported that the local elections and the Green pass issue would be the focus of the chat.
Lega and Fratelli d’Italia, together with Forza Italia, run together in the main cities of the country where voting will take place on 3 and 4 October. The coalition presented only one candidate in each municipality. There will also be voting in large metropolises such as Milan, Turin, Bologna, Rome and Naples and the center-right is determined to overtake the candidates of the left who, on the other hand, in many cases run separately. Administrative votes are a great opportunity for parties, an important test bed for verifying the reliability of surveys and understand in what direction to move to prepare for the next political elections of 2023. The first three parties (Brothers of Italy, Lega and Democratic Party) are enclosed in a couple of decimal points, a minimum gap that does not offer certainty of projection, even if considering the coalition, the center-right clearly outclasses the center-left.
However, the great harmony emerges from the meeting between Salvini and Meloni, also underlined by the words of the leader of the League: “We will govern together, I don’t know when“. Shortly before, during the forum’s work, the Northern League had declared:”Giorgia and I made two choices we believe in, hard for both of us. One being outside the government with full rights, contesting, proposing and intervening and the other preferring to stay inside with a view to reconstruction to avoid that there was an unbalanced government on the left. I do not say what is right or wrong, the facts and the Italians will judge it“.
